1+2+3+1 formula for #YolandaPH

From Maria Irene Aserios:
"I am organizing relief and donation drives for Super Typhoon #YolandaPH #Haiyan victims. Those in Mindanao, please feel free to send me a message. If you want to offer your place of business as donation dropoff center, if you want to donate, if you want to organize your own drive etc - please feel free to let me know. Let's consolidate all efforts. I am also fixing arrangements for travels to Cebu, Leyte, Samar and Bohol. If you want to help out and travel with me and other volunteers, let me know also.

I am supporting the 1+2+3+1 formula for #YolandaPH donations: 1 kilo of rice, 2 pieces canned goods, 3 packs of noodles and 1 liter of water. All these for a total of roughly Php 100 (US $2.50). That may even be lesser than the price of your coffee. Please, if you want to help, feel free to contact me. I will personally go to the affected areas (my own expense...EDIT: an angel has offered to shoulder fares for me and a companion) and make sure that your donations are received properly. Please feel free to contact me also if you want to co-organize fundraising events and other donation drives. Thank you for your generosity!"

You may drop you donations at One Happy Story

Sponsor A Care Pack

To my dearest friends who want to help, you might want to support this cause: SPONSOR A CARE PACK  I remember during the aftermath of Sendong (Typhoon Washi), that while clothes and canned goods and noodle abounded, most people usually overlooked the needs of the most vulnerable, the children.

With that, we would like to revive this project and create Care Packs for little kids 3 years old and younger. Each pack will include 1 feeding bottle (sterilized and washed), 1 500 ml water, 1 sachet of milk (good for two feedings), 1 small blanket and a pack of crackers. This will only cost P120 each or a little around $3.

Smart Keeps the Good Going with PayITfwd

Smart PayITfwdExtraordinary deeds by ordinary people can make a positive difference in this world. It can be the retiree who trains the unemployed women in the community on livelihood crafts, or the group of athletes that holds sports clinics for street children.

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is giving these acts of kindness a further boost by way of payITfwd, a new social development initiative that aims to enable the spread of social good acts or ‘smart acts’ using technology.

The goal is to support, promote, expand, enhance, reward and enable social good efforts that foster learning through technology.  With payITfwd, social good advocates can scale up and even encourage the public to support their cause,” said Ramon Isberto, head of Smart Public Affairs Group.

Through the initiative, Smart is looking for individuals or groups that are already doing community-based projects that contribute to learning or expansion of knowledge in various fields such as education, environment, disaster preparedness, health, livelihood and sports.

Entries must be submitted in video format showing an overview of the project, its impact to the recipient community, and how technology can enable the project or further spread its benefits.

Smart will be selecting the best 20 entries in a two-round selection process that will run from May 21 up to July 31, and August 16 to October 31 this year. Entries will be judged based on the impact of the project in the community, its novelty and proposed use of technology.  Voting of best entries via social media will also have bearing on the final score of entries.

Each of the selected social good advocates, 10 for each round, will receive a technology package comprising five tablets, 1 Smart Bro Pocket Wi-Fi, Smart Bro load worth P3,000.00, and a cash prize of P50,000.

While technology can facilitate efficiencies in operations and help expand reach, access to these is often a luxury for community-based initiatives. The program will allow them easy access to such technology simply by reporting what they have already done and are targeting to achieve with the help of technology. This utilizes Smart’s technology solutions to help the spread of social good,” said Stephanie Orlino, Smart Public Affairs manager for education programs.

Technology not only increases access to learning but enables these smart acts to spread its benefits to more communities thus keeping the 'good' going,” added Orlino.

In launching this initiative, Smart hopes to increase learning opportunities of target communities through technology.

500 of the country’s top pediatricians gathered at the Grand Ballroom, Pryce Hotel, Cagayan de Oro for the Vaccine Congress 2013 last January 27, 2013. With its theme; "Evolving Technology. Expanding Coverage. Protecting the next generation." they discussed best practices and share insights on how they can defeat the Rotavirus. This Rotavirus causes diarrhea among children aged 5 years old. 4000 children worldwide dies everyday and 13 children dies everyday as well in the Philippines because of this Rotavirus-related gastroenteritis.

Human Race Against Rotavirus (5)
With the reduction of child mortality as pasrt of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations, saving children from rotavirus-related deaths counts among the most important missions countries must take--especially as this disease is highly preventable through vaccination. The World Health Organization's Strategic Group of Experts (SAGE) recommends that rotavirus vaccines be included in all national immunization programs, particularly in countries where diarrhea-related deaths account for more than 10% of deaths in children younger than 5 years.

Globe Telecom Appreciation Party For Media and Bloggers

The Globe Telecom Appreciation Party for media and bloggers happened last January 10, 2012 at N Hotel. The party was attended by various local media personalities in both radio, prints and online communities. This has been the second time that Globe Telecom hosted a party for local media and bloggers. This time though it was a little late for 2012 thus it was called "Christmas in January".

Before the program started hot drinks and lunch were served. Kudos to N Hotel for the delicious food!

The program started with a welcome message from Globe Telecom’s Head of Corporate Communications Department, Yoly C. Crisanto. Globe has announced that they have completed the network modernization and transformation program and here in CDO we are already now fully equipped with 4G network strength. And also expect more network modernization program from Globe includeing an all-IP infrastructure and overall improved network quality.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Globe Telecom’s Head of Corporate Communications Department, Yoly C. Crisanto[/caption]

Globe prepared a couple fun games that everyone really enjoyed.  There we're latest gadgets which are up for grabs via raffle draw like a Blackberry Curve, Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy SII. The consolation prizes are Microwave, Breakfast Oven and Electric Griller. And mind you the bloggers didn't bring home any of those big prizes. Lol Will better luck next time I guess. Anyways, thank you Globe Telecom for the great lunch, fun times and the goodies. ^_^
